Hats

Our hat range is a fairly new addition to the extremities® brand, but has quickly gained a reputation for no nonsense, functional design. Perennial favourites, such as the Windy Took and Ice Cap combine superb fit with carefully selected fabrics and provide ideal solutions for climbing or walking. The Windy Took is ideal under a helmet with flat seams and a Polartec® Power Dry® lining to provide excellent comfort and wicking. For 2006 the Ice Cap has been updated to reduce weight and packed size. Using Gore-Tex® Paclite® as the shell fabric, the close fitting design now provides excellent winter protection for even the most weight conscious of backpackers and walkers.

Wicking Layers:
The head can loose up to 70% of the bodies heat making donning a hat, possibly the single most important thing you do before setting off in poor weather. The problem with this is that, with heat comes perspiration and this can be just as bad as no hat at all. extremities® Power Stretch® and Power Dry® headwear combine superb breathability with lightweight and comfort, which is especially important if climbing, cycling or snowboarding helmets are being used. The Power Dry® Beanie weighs just 25g and is so light and thin that it is hardly noticeable under a helmet. Its wicking performance is second to none and it is the perfect choice for mountain biking, snowboarding or running. For colder conditions or those that feel the cold more easily the Power Stretch® Beanie and Banded Beanie are the perfect upgrade, offering greater warmth with only slightly reduced wicking.

Windproof Layers:
Exposed conditions often bring high winds and therefore greater risk of frostbite through windchill. Our windproof range uses several Gore® Windstopper® fabrics in classic extremities® styles to provide superior protection for the vast majority of outdoor activities in these situations. The Windy Balaclava provides close fitting comfort with a slight stretch and flat lock seams. A wired peak provides extra protection and a fleece mouth panel aids breathing.
With more and more people enjoying aerobic outdoor activities such as off-road running and mountain biking there is a need for lightweight windproof protection. The extremities ActiveX range sets new standards in Windstopper® headwear by offering windproof protection for these activities at a greatly reduced weight.

New Boreas Range:
For 2006 we have developed a range of headwear with 4 times the wind protection of traditional fleece, but with more breathablity than windproof fabrics. Using Polar Tec® Wind Pro® this range is ideal for winter walkers, general outdoor use or even workmen. The extra wind-resistance over standard fleece greatly increases comfort in windy weather, but with out the clamminess or loss of hearing that can sometime occur with windproof fabrics. The Boreas Banded Beanie uses the same style as its Power Stretch® cousin, but its greater warmth and wind-resistance means it’s the perfect companion for cold winter walks and treks.
