TGO magazine's Eddy Meechan is somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to his outdoor gear, often resorting to making his own as he finds conventional kit is simply too bulky for his superlight needs.

So you can imagine our surprise upon reading this months (Nov '09) TGO magazine, to see Eddy using a Terra Nova Moonlite Bag in combination with a homemade tarp. By taking an item normally used as a sleeping bag cover or emergency shelter and adapting his approach to finding a pitch for the night, Mr Meechan has found that he can camp just about anywhere with a minimal pack weight and panoramic views guaranteed!

It's not an approach we can all take (indeed, it would probably be deemed pretty uncomfortable by the standards of most), but it raises interesting points about how your priorities effect your comfort when you shelter outdoors.

The Moonlite Bag is made from waterproof and breathable fabric with taped seams, to create a dry environment for your sleeping bag and so improve your comfort in damp conditions. At only 200g and with an RRP of £90 it's cheaper than a full-size bivi and packs down smaller than an emergency shelter, making it a fantastically versatile piece of kit for anyone's backpack. Full details are available here.

If you're interested in trying out Tarp camping, we now produce a small range of Terra Nova Tarps including the basic Tarp Shelter - a superlite and versatile shelter for up to two people.
