Southern Cross 1 Review

Posted on October 5th, 2017

Kevin Merrey from Sky Rise Productions recently took one of our awarding winning tents, the Southern Cross 1 on a four day filming trip to the Lake District. The trip followed and filmed expedition leader Ian Finch on a photographic journey across rugged terrain and adverse weather conditions.

Night one saw Kevin camping on top of Grey Friar. Kevin said…

“I’d never used the tent before, but found it very easy to put up. That night the weather was rainy and fairly cold. The tent kept me warm and dry and I felt very cosy and safe.”

On the second night, Kevin camped in lower levels near Buttermere Lake and experienced a very wet night.

“The ground we pitched on was water logged. Even still, the tent kept me warm and dry.”

The third and final night was perhaps the most challenging! Camping near the top of High Stile, nearly 2000 feet up, Kevin’s team endured very high winds gusting in excess of 50mph.

“It was a wild night, but we all survived! In the morning I noticed that none of my tent pegs were out and everything was still as secure as it should be”.

Here’s what Kevin had to say about the tent overall;

“The tent is very light and packs away to a small size. This was a great feature as I was hiking with 4 days of kit including my camera gear”.

“All in all it is a great tent. 10 out of 10. Top marks. Thanks guys for a great product!”
