Gaiters are not the most stylish piece of gear you will ever buy, but they're not supposed to be. They need to be hardwearing, practical and easy to put on/take off, particularly when plastered in Scottish snow or Derbyshire bog. I've been kicking the backside out of a pair of Novagaiters for a couple of years and they have performed well in both fields.
The front zip and Velcro combination works well and is very secure. The simple draw elastic at the top is practical and the little veclro tie back is easy to use, (and wont break like spring loaded clips). I've sunk in bogs across the world and kept reasonably dry, and grazed them with crampons galore in Scotland, Russia, Italy, Switzerland and Nepal. Still they look good and keep coming back for more.
One great improvement on older designs is the under boot strap which used to wear badly, but now seems secure. The buckles still slip a little however, and I find that locking the rubber with a little PVC tape helps no end.
All in all a good all round gaiter which does it's job well in all conditions, packs away small and continues to get kicked..!
