Southern Cross

We’re thrilled to announce that the Southern Cross 1 has been highly recommended by The Great Outdoors Magazine. Testing the best tents for 2024, TGO concluded that “if you are in the market for a winter capable, 2 skin shelter for British weather, this should be high on your list”.

David Lintern, deputy editor of The Great Outdoors Magazine, author and keen outdoor adventurer reviewed the Southern Cross 1. He put the shelter to the ultimate test by camping across Britain in some of the harshest weather conditions. Awarding a total of 4.5 stars, David stated that the Southern Cross 1 ‘will cope with most British weather across the seasons’ making the tent a formidable shelter in all 4-seasons.

The Southern Cross 1 is a completely free-standing, lightweight tent that has been cleverly updated over the years; ‘the design has been finessed, and the reduced scale of single person means the Southern Cross 1 feels absolutely bomber.’ David continues to explain that ‘There are 6 main pegging points and another 8 for side panels and vents. The supplied pegs are strong and long. The inner is solid, with a mesh door window and zipper, making for a cosy shelter on breezy nights’ and due to the ventilation system, he “suffered no condensation on the tests”.

Despite being a 1-person tent, every bit of space has been made functional ‘The living space is a good length and is triangle shaped meaning decent storage space at the back of the tent (including a pocket). There’s plenty more storage in the porch’ which ensures you have all the space you need to camp comfortably. David also mentions how ‘the inner is now PFC free, yet the built-in groundsheet remains reassuringly taped and impermeable’ demonstrating our commitment to producing sustainable products.
