A lone green tent pitched on a rocky hillside beneath a wide pastel-coloured sunset sky streaked with orange, pink and purple above distant lowland layers.

Sustainability

The wild places our gear takes you to are the reason we exist; protecting them isn’t a marketing angle; it’s the condition our business depends on. That means changing what our products are made from, how long they last, and what happens to them when they’re finally done. Here’s where that stands, product by product.

Why This Matters To Us

Our gear only has a purpose if there are wild places left to use it in. That shapes three commitments: cut waste out of how we design, manufacture, and ship products; build gear that’s meant to last rather than be replaced; and move away from materials and chemicals that cause long-term harm. None of this is finished, it’s an ongoing shift in how we source, make, and support what we sell.

Material Innovation

We source and develop materials that balance performance with responsibility:

TriPlex™: Our Recycled, PFC-Free Tent Fabric

TriPlex™ is the fabric platform behind our Solar, Laser, iO, and Performance range tents. Flysheets, groundsheets, and inner fabrics are made from post-consumer plastic bottles rather than virgin polyester, and every one of those fabrics is solution-dyed, with colour pigment added to the raw polymer before the yarn is even formed, instead of dyeing finished fabric in a water bath afterwards. That cuts the water, chemical, and energy use of the colouring stage significantly compared with conventional piece-dyeing, and locks colour into the fibre so it resists fading.
Waterproofing is handled by a high-pressure silicone coating engineered to be C0 by design, built without PFC or PFAS (“forever chemical”) water-repellent treatments from the outset, not retrofitted to remove them. After extensive performance testing, this fabric now covers flysheets, groundsheets, and inner materials across the Solar, Laser, iO, and Performance ranges.

Wild Country Elite Fabric

The same approach runs through Wild Country’s Elite tents. Flysheet nylon and ripstop reinforcement are made from post-consumer plastic bottles. Waterproofing comes from a PFC-free, silicone/PU hybrid C0 coating rather than a fluorinated treatment, and the mesh inners are solution-dyed for the same water and energy savings as TriPlex™.

Sustainable Fibres: Polylana®

Extremities’ ECO headwear range uses Polylana® yarn in place of acrylic, a lower-impact fibre with the same warmth and durability through a UK winter.

Recycled Insulation: PrimaLoft® Gold Eco

PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation Eco delivers the same thermal performance as our other synthetic fill, made from 100% post-consumer recycled fibres.

Repairs, Not Landfill

Our in-house repair team in Derbyshire works on Terra Nova and Wild Country gear flysheets, inners, zips, pole sleeves, plus packs, gloves, hats, gaiters, and socks, including Gore-Tex® patching and re-taping. We completed roughly 480 repairs last year.

The process: send us photos of the damage for an initial estimate; ship your gear in clean, dry condition; we inspect within 1–3 working days and send a firm quote; once approved, we aim to complete and return the repair via tracked delivery within 10–15 working days.

If your item is still under guarantee and you can show proof of purchase, inspection and repair are free, and we’ll email you a prepaid DPD label. Outside of the guarantee, you cover the cost of the repair and your own inbound shipping, plus a flat £10 for tracked return delivery.
