Polar Venture

In March 2008, a team of two attempted to ski 200km across an ice cap a quarter the size of Wales, unaided and with temperatures reaching as low as -60°C, with an aim of inspiring young people into exploration and raising awareness of climate change through education.
They were also raising funds for the British Schools Exploring Society, which encourages future generations to push themselves to the limits.

The two brave souls in question were Antony Jinman and Vijay Shah, a pair of young explorers with an impressive range of expedition experience under their respective belts. This experience would prove invaluable as the team suffered a few setbacks in the initial phases of the trip, but were able to adapt in order to succeed.
For the trip, Vijay and Antony knew a reliable bese camp tent would be crucial, and plumped for the Super Quasar with additional snow valances.

They also opted for the fetching red colour, a real bonus in emergency situations where a green tent can easily become just another rock to a passing helicopter. The extra space in the Super Quasar was also appreciated on occasions when storms forced long days inside, counting the hours until it was time to pack up and move on.

Full details of the expedition can be found on the Polar Venture website, and donations can be made to BSES here.
