Steve Perry took his winter ascent of Britain’s toughest long distance walk down to the wire, finishing on his deadline day of 31st March. Having started on the 1st December 2005 he has been through 121 days of adventure, climbing the famous 3000ft Munro mountains that lie scattered far and wide throughout the Highlands of Scotland.

The journey has been tough with over 1500 miles covered to summit the 284 mountains. Snow, high wind and heavy rain hampered the final few days of the expedition, but a well deserved rest day at the Crask Inn saw Steve fresh for the final ascent of Ben Hope the next day.
Steve carried everything he needed on his back and teamed up with Terra Nova, who provided some of the lightest clothing and equipment available, including the Laserlite tent, which has been confirmed by Guinness World Records as the world’s lightest tent in 2005.

Steve’s choice of the Laserlite may have seemed an error, by some, at the start of his trip. However, after spending around a month sleeping in the Laserlite without issue, his critics have been proved wrong. And that includes one or two of us in the office, as this sort of expedition is not what the tent was primarily desigined for. We are delighted with his success and are very pleased to have been able to support him. Anyone looking to follow in Steve’s foot steps will be delighted to find that the Laser Competition, which replaced the Laserlite in 2006, is even lighter at just 930g complete.

This is not the first time that Terra Nova has supported Steve. Two years ago, whilst sponsored by Terra Nova, he became the first person to walk from Lands’ End to John O’Groats via all of the mainland 3000ft mountains. A journey that had him living out in the hills for 7 months and climbing a total of 303 mountains.
