Nigel Vardy lost his toes and most of his fingers when he was stranded in a storm during his first expedition to conquer Mount McKinley in 1999.
However, this did not discourage him from trying once again in April 2003 to attempt to climb one of the world’s most dangerous mountain ranges on Baffin Island with the backing of Terra Nova.

Terra Nova Equipment provided Nigel with a Super Quasar Endurance tent built to withstand the toughest and most extreme weather conditions, together with a selection of expedition-specific gloves, hats and socks from the company’s Extremities range. Last year Terra Nova presented Nigel with some specifically altered gloves. Nigel used them for his trip to the arctic.

Nigel was delighted to be teaming up with a local firm. Prior to the expedition Nigel said:

“Thanks to Terra Nova I can once again dare to explore the frozen glaciers of the Arctic, and feel safe in the knowledge that their equipment will protect me from the extreme cold temperatures on Baffin Island.”

Despite atrocious weather conditions, Nigel and his team mates were able to achieve most of their aims, and returned to the UK tired but happy in May 2003. Sales and marketing director Carolyn Budding said:

“Nigel has been a supporter of Terra Nova Equipment for a number of years so we were pleased to be able to support him on this monumental expedition. We admire Nigels bravery and ambition and we hope that well be able to keep supporting him on his future trips.”
