Sally Tyler of Fort Boyisand, Plymouth has won the record breaking tent which sheltered explorer Andrew Cooney on his successful expedition to become the youngest ever person to walk to the South Pole. The tent, offered by sponsor Terra Nova Equipment, has been autographed by Andrew and Sally was lucky enough to be picked out of more than 500 entries by Andrew himself.
Sally won the prize at the The Ordnance Survey Outdoors Show at the Birmingham NEC last weekend in a competition run on the Terra Nova Equipment stand. She is a keen outdoor enthusiast and is delighted to have won this fantastic unique prize: “Whilst I could never expect to follow in Andrews footsteps, I feel his achievement is an inspiration to everyone and that we should go out to meet our challenges and live our dreams.”
It took Andrew 53 days and 730 miles to complete the walk from the Antarctic Coast to the South Pole. Andrew said: “Without the support and top quality equipment the expedition would not have happened. Pushing yourself to the limit and being supported by companies such as Terra Nova Equipment with such credibility in the outdoor industry made the whole experience a lot more comfortable. I hope that Sally enjoys the tent as much as I did.”
