The Terra Nova Jubilee ‘Union Jack’ Special tent celebrates its 10th anniversary this month.
This one-off tent was originally made to commemorate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002. Terra Nova Equipment staff designed and manufactured the tent here at our Derbyshire factory in the heart of the UK. At first glance you might think this is just a union flag print on some white fabric, but you’d be wrong. It’s actually a carefully crafted fly sheet, from individual sections of coloured fabric sewn together, seem sealed and finished to the same exacting standards of our Terra Nova UK made tents.
Its design is based on the all time classic Terra Nova tent, the Quasar. Coincidently, the Quasar tent design is also celebrating a significant milestone of its own this year – 25 years of the Quasar tent! Yes, it’s hard to believe that this tried and tested design has been used all over the world, through some of the harshest conditions, for a quarter of a century and is still going strong today.
For those who remember seeing the Terra Nova Jubilee tent in the past, you may be interested to know that we still have it, and it’s very much alive and well 10 years on. Unfortunately, it’s still not for sale as it’s become too precious to us now to see it go. But we may give it an outing or two in future as Britain looks forward to the celebrations of the Queen’s 60th Jubilee and hosting the 2012 Summer Olympics.
