Review: SUPERB LIGHTWEIGHT TARP 11/05/21

reviewed by:

rating:

This is an amazing lightweight tarp, and the lightest I have found available. The material feels strong and is easier to handle than I expected. It is thin so I would expect it to be noisy in strong wind but this would be no different to any other lightweight tarp. It comes with a small stuff sac of the same material, which is actually just the right size for packing it up early in the morning with cold hands. The size is longer than usual for a one person tarp, which is a great help in pegging one end down into the wind/rain and still having space to lie out fully. I have attached MSR lightweight cords to each corner and the whole package with a couple of MSR pegs weighs around 100g. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to travel fast and light. Ben
Review: The Ultra 1 - light versatile and expensive. 09/07/13

The Ultra 1 delivers what it promises. It is extremely light and packs down 1.5 x 4 x 6 inches including 6 pegs and some cord to pitch it with. When first unpacked, it looks unbelievably flimsy and likely to tear easily, but it is tough. I have just used it for 7 consecutive nights on Offa’s Dyke North, in fairly high wind, rain and also some sunshine. It stood up well in the wind (pitched with 1 or 2 walking poles depending on configuration) and I never got wet under it. The negatives are; (1) Price. It is really expensive and leaves you wondering if you should not have bought a ultra light tent instead. (2) it is fairly transparent, which means it does not block light and if you were thinking of some privacy – well forget about it. It worked for me though and I don’t regret the purchase.
